Driving While Impaired - Participant Guidebook Page 14 • Drivers will be considered under the influence if they have a BAC of .08 or more. However, you can still be convicted of a DUI if your BAC is below this level, if there is sufficient evidence that your driving was impaired. • Drivers shall not operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of any intoxicating drug. • Drivers consent to chemical tests of their blood or breath if arrested for driving under the influence when they operate a motor vehicle. • Law enforcement officers can also conduct a preliminary breath test prior to arrest if they reasonably suspect the driver's abilities are impaired. • Drivers convicted of a DUI or who refuse a test will be required to install an ignition interlock device and are subject to losing their license for at least 90 days. UNIT 3 – Are We Ready to Drive? Child Safety Seats - Participant Guidebook Page 37 • Children under the age of 1 or weighing less than 20 pounds are required to be restrained in a rear- facing child safety seat. • Children under 4 but weighing more than 20 pounds must be restrained in a child safety seat. • Children ages 4 to 7 who are less than 57 inches tall or weigh between 20 and 65 pounds must be restrained in a booster seat. • Children ages 8 to 16 who are less than 57 inches tall or weigh between 20 and 65 pounds must be restrained in a child safety device for a child of that size or in a safety belt, whichever is appropriate for the particular child. Construction Signs and Construction Zones - Participant Guidebook Page 49 • Drivers must follow a flagger's directions. Flaggers will stop, slow, or guide traffic through a construction zone. • Fines for offenses committed within highway work zones are doubled. Railroad Grade Crossings - Participant Guidebook Page 56 • It is illegal to drive around a railroad crossing gate, even if there is no train. • Drivers must stop at least 15 feet from the tracks, but no more than 50 feet away.
