Sharing the Road with Emergency Vehicles – Participant Guidebook Page 82 • Drivers must move over for stopped emergency, police, tow trucks or DelDOT vehicles, when those vehicles are displaying the appropriate emergency vehicle warning lights. If it is unsafe for the motorist to move over, the motorists is then required to slow down as they passed the stopped emergency, police, tow truck or DelDOT vehicle. • Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, drivers must yield the right-of- way until the vehicle passes by. Sharing the Road with School Buses – Participant Guidebook Page 82 • Drivers traveling in either direction on a roadway with 3 or less lanes must stop when a school bus activates its flashing lights and stop sign. • Drivers traveling in the same direction as a school bus on a four-lane road must stop for a stopped school bus. Drivers traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop. Sharing the Road with Bicycles – Participant Guidebook Page 84 • On a roadway with at least 2 travel lanes proceeding in the same direction a driver should reduce speed and move completely into the lane to the left before passing. • On a roadway with only 1 travel lane proceeding in a given direction and where that travel lane is too narrow to travel safely side-by-side within the lane, a driver should reduce speed and move completely into the lane to the left before passing, even if there is a double yellow line or they are in a no-passing zone, unless their view of approaching vehicles is obstructed or they are within 100 feet of, or traversing, an intersection, or railroad grade crossing. • On a roadway with only 1 travel lane proceeding in each direction and where that travel lane wide enough for safe passing within the travel lane, a driver shall reduce speed and pass to the left of the bicycle observing the 3-foot minimum distance passing requirement. • Drivers may not honk horns at bicyclists when passing except in cases of imminent danger. • When a bicycle and a vehicle enter an intersection from different roadways at approximately the same time, the operator of the vehicle or bicycle on the left shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle or bicycle on the right. • A bicyclist riding upon and along a sidewalk or walking while pushing a bicycle across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, has all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.
