Recalls A recall is issued when a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle, equipment, child safety seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards. Manufacturers are required to fix the problem by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund, or in rare cases repurchasing the vehicle. X Using the NHTSA Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) lookup tool, access the information provided by the manufacturer conducting the recall. Windshield Maintenance Having a windshield that is clean and unobstructed is crucial for good visibility. Inspecting your windshield regularly and following these basic maintenance tips can help to prevent a crash from occurring. X KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLEAN (INSIDE AND OUTSIDE). Make sure your windshield washer fluid holder is full so you can keep your windows free from smudges and debris that can obstruct your vision. Insects, pollen, and dirt on the windshield can cause wear over time. X REPLACE YOUR WINDSHIELD WIPERS AS NEEDED. If you regularly drive long distances or leave your vehicle parked in the sun, you may need to change them more often. X BE AWARE OF ROADWAY DEBRIS. Other drivers' tires can easily kick up road debris and propel it straight at your windshield, so leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. X REPAIR MINOR DAMAGE IMMEDIATELY. If you find a minor windshield crack or chip, have it repaired as soon as possible. Unrepaired, the damage can worsen. If you have a vehicle with technology features, there may be sensors in your windshield. If so, it is important to have an authorized professional do the repair as they may need to recalibrate the sensors or update their software. See Vehicle Maintenance in the Vehicle Companion Guide.
