Driving While Impaired - Participant Guidebook Page 14 • The legal Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is .08. • Drivers will be automatically considered under the influence if they have a BAC of .08 or more. However, you can still be convicted of a DUI if your BAC is below this level, if there is sufficient evidence that your driving was impaired. • Drivers will be considered under the influence if they operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of any intoxicating drugs. • It is illegal for a driver under 21 to drive with any amount of alcohol in his or her body. • Drivers consent to chemical tests of their blood, breath, or urine if arrested for driving under the influence when they operate a motor vehicle. Refusing a test may result in a license suspension. • Drivers will be required to install an ignition interlock device if (1) they refuse a chemical test (2) are convicted of multiple DUIs or (3) following a first offense if they had a BAC above .15. UNIT 3 – Are We Ready to Drive? Child Safety Seats - Participant Guidebook Page 37 • Children who are under the age of 1 or weigh less than 20 pounds must be restrained in a rear- facing child safety seat. • Children who are between the ages of 1 and 4 and weigh between 20 and 40 pounds must be restrained in a forward-facing child safety seat in the back seat. • Children, who are between the ages of 4 and 8, weigh between 40 and 80 pounds and are less than 4 feet 9 inches tall must be restrained in a booster seat. • Children at least 8 years-old and weighing 80 or more pounds or are 4 feet 9 inches or taller must be restrained with a safety belt. Construction Signs and Construction Zones - Participant Guidebook Page 49 • Drivers must follow a flagger's directions. • Fines for traffic violations are doubled in a construction zone. • It is illegal to talk on a handheld mobile device (cell phone) while driving in a construction zone, except for reporting emergencies. Railroad Grade Crossings - Participant Guidebook Page 56 • It is illegal to drive around a railroad crossing gate, even if there is no train. • Drivers must stop at least 15 feet from the tracks, but no more than 50 feet away. • It is illegal to park within 25 feet of a railroad crossing.
