Turning at Intersections - Participant Guidebook Page 68 • Drivers must use their turn signal at least 50 feet before making a turn. • An officer can ticket a driver for waiting to turn left in an intersection if they are obstructing traffic. • When turning left from a two-way street on to a one-way street, drivers must turn into the most extreme left-hand lane available. • It is legal to turn on red from the inside lane of multiple right turn lanes if it is safe to do so and there are no signs prohibiting. • It is illegal to make a right turn on a solid red arrow. • It is illegal to make a left turn from a two-way street to a one-way on a solid red light. U-Turns – Participant Guidebook Page 69 • Drivers may not make a U-turn where the vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of another vehicle approaching in either direction at a distance of 500 feet. Merging – Participant Guidebook Page 70 • Drivers entering a highway must yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on the highway which are approaching close enough to constitute a hazard. Handicapped Parking – Participant Guidebook Page 74 • Drivers with disabilities must display either a special registration plate or placard to park in designated persons with disabilities parking spaces. Driving in Rain, Snow, Fog, Smoke, Dust and Other Conditions – Participant Guidebook Page 75-77 • Drivers must turn on their headlights if they are using their windshield wipers. • Drivers must turn on their headlights if visibility is less than 200 feet. Sharing the Road with Emergency Vehicles – Participant Guidebook Page 82 • On any undivided highway on which an emergency vehicle approaches with its lights and siren on, all traffic shall yield to the right, clear of any intersection, and shall stop. • If an emergency vehicle or a disabled vehicle with flashing lights on is stopped, the driver must move to a lane that is not adjacent to the stopped vehicle. If it is not possible to change lanes, the driver must reduce their speed. This also applies for a highway maintenance vehicle, tow truck, mobile command or communications vehicle, or other designated vehicle with flashing lights on. • It is illegal to follow an emergency vehicle with its lights and sirens on. Sharing the Road with School Buses – Participant Guidebook Page 82 • The driver of a vehicle is required to stop for a school bus that has its red lights flashing and is stopped in the far right lane on a five-lane undivided highway. • Drivers do not have to stop for a school bus if they are traveling in the opposite direction on a roadway divided by a median or barrier.
